Dear Patient,

I am sad to notify you of my retirement from Park Medical Associates on July 31, 2022. I have had a wonderful and challenging professional life here for the last 28 years. I have loved our professional office, dedicated staff, beautiful venue, the access to Hopkins Hospital and Medical Staff. I am particularly grateful for our staying open during the last two years throughout the pandemic which showed our practice's dedication and commitment. We survived financially and served our patients well.

The pandemic was very hard for all of us but particularly for those of us on the front line of primary care. My work load increased during a part of life when most people scale back on their professional demands and hours. It is now time for me to enjoy more time with my grandchildren, learn Spanish, read more, exercise during the daylight hours and have time to enjoy time with my family and friends! I know I will miss you and the large role you have played in my life and my learning. You have provided me with terrific career satisfaction, the opportunity to be of use and help my community. I had originally planned to retire in 2020 but delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. I now see it is unlikely that the pandemic will end soon and that my retirement will need to occur during it. I know there is no time when I can leave without challenges to my patients and the practice

I wish I could guarantee a young primary care internist to each and all of you. I have come up with a list of possible primary care sites here and elsewhere. There is a primary care shortage for many reasons including lower salaries, medical school debt, medical education policies, and a lack of unified health care planning in the US. I am confident that my patients who are so resourceful will find good care.

Some suggestions

  1. Park Medical Associates - Unfortunately Park is losing physicians this year to moves, retirements and change to concierge practice model. This unfortunate timing will make it significantly more difficult to immediately obtain a Park Medical Doctor. Dr. Gaurang Garg is joining in July, 2022 from Northwestern University Hospital but cannot take all the patients needing primary care internists. We are actively recruiting but the supply is tight!
  2. Johns Hopkins Community Physicians
  3. Johns Hopkins Department of General Internal Medicine
  4. University of Maryland
  5. Mercy Personal Physicians
  6. GBMC
  7. Clinical Associates
  8. Life Bridge Health
  9. Med Star
  10. If you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan or other managed care plan, you should check with the plan for additional recommendations.

All of these groups are actively recruiting new physicians and so you may wish to check back frequently to their websites.

I suggest you ask friends and family for suggestions as well as your favorite specialists. I also recommend that if you travel far to see me, you check for local primary care near your home.

I will be in the office till July 29, 2022. I would love to see you at the office for a final visit. Please make sure you have up to date refills.

With a heavy heart, but with confidence in the future,

Mary
